- Rene Sandler Receives Prestigous Award for the Montgomery County Bar
Foundation School Education Committee
At the Montgomery County Bar Association Law Day on May 2, 2008 Rene Sandler received an award for the Montgomery County Bar Foundation School Education Committee. Ms. Sandler is the Chair of the prestigious School Education Committee which provides programs for students and parents in Montgomery County Public Schools. As the Chair of this Committee, Ms. Sandler regularly participates in the Montgomery County Public Schools Parent Academy providing informative programs for parents on youthful drivers, drinking and driving, alcohol and drugs and youthful offenders, gangs, forensics, and an overview of the legal system. In addition, Ms. Sandler provides speakers for Career Day in schools throughout Montgomery County on a variety of subjects.
- Recent Coram Nobis Victory at Sandler Law LLC
Sandler Law LLC filed a Coram Nobis Petition on behalf of a client in Immigration and Customs Enforcement Custody facing imminent removal to Uganda for three paraphernalia convictions. Sandler Law LLC accepted representation for the Coram Nobis proceeding and successfully argued that the Client’s constitutional rights were violated where the guilty plea litany in a prior proceeding was defective. As a result, immigration proceedings were terminated and the Client was ultimately released from immigration custody.
- Rene Sandler was part of a distinguished panel of judges and family law attorneys who taught a continuing education course to family law practitioners through the Montgomery County Bar Association on the topic of Domestic Violence. Ms. Sandler shared practice tips and experience as a criminal defense attorney handling such cases. Ms. Sandler regularly handles Protective Order and Domestic Violence cases throughout the State of Maryland. As part of her practice, in addition to handling domestic violence criminal cases, Ms. Sandler consults with domestic attorneys dealing with domestic violence issues in custody and divorce cases.
- Rene Sandler accepted a certificate of appreciation from Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Jerry Weast at a Press Conference on October 17, 2007. At the Press Conference, Superintendent Weast acknowledged the partnership between Montgomery County Public Schools and the Montgomery County Bar Foundation and Bar Association for their participation with the MCPS Parent Academy. Rene Sandler is the Chair of the Bar Foundation School Education Committee.
- Rene Sandler along with colleagues from the legal community and police department taught a fingerprint and DNA class for 3rd graders in Montgomery County. The students had just finished learning about fingerprints in their science curriculum.
- Rene Sandler argued on behalf of John Hall before a three judge panel in Montgomery County Circuit Court on October 26, 2007 asking that Hall’s mandatory five year sentence be stricken. Sandler was successful in obtaining a modification of Hall’s sentence with the panel unanimously agreeing to strike the mandatory sentence for Mr. Hall. John Hall plead guilty in April, 2007 to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after his eight year old son took the firearm to a daycare he was attending and shot a seven year old girl. Hall’s case received national attention.
